Now I’m no writer, I’m currently adjusting myself to typing on this keyboard for one, but here we are… me and another blank page. I’m writing because I’m frustrated, I would like a digital memory of some sort of my life and the times, and quite frankly I want to improve this skill so don’t mind me if this first one is a little on the rough side.

“Why are you frustrated, Jessica?” you might find yourself asking. Well for one, I’m living through this clusterfuck of the year we call 2020. There is so much happening at the moment a global pandemic, a race inequality crisis, politics on fire with no hopeful leader in sight, The broadening wealth gap, climate change, the amazon depleting, and a few personal issues of mine to top it all off.

I’m sure I’m not the only one experiencing these overwhelming feelings of hopelessness at times. which eventually leads me to a couple of questions. questions you might find yourself asking well… yourself. First and foremost WHY?! then it goes something like what’s the point? then I ask myself a deeper question, how can I make a change? and better yet how can I get more people to care about making a change? As a 29-year-old immigrant artist with no job and no college degree, I feel already defeated, but then I think of the internet, there are so many ways to positively influence people so many ways to affect positive change and if you’ve ever watched any movie where someone wants to defeat the bad guys the first thing that they do is rally up a team.

We need to work together to dig our way through the mud, I know for a fact I could be more educated upon who runs this country and the ways in which policies directly affect me. Is it the politicians or is it big corporations or is it a mixture of both? Most baby boomers look at millennials as irresponsible know it alls who are too sensitive, unable to buy a house or raise children without their help. The truth is we aren’t irresponsible we are the consequences of all the fun our careless boomer parents had and now we get the shitty end of the stick dealing with all the repercussions or their careless lives. But, what we can take responsibility for is actually caring about this earth, and our societies unlike them we have the knowledge and resources to do better. Back in the day, the only people who questioned community strength and building were people trying to make a profit from gentrification or the people who were affected by it and lived it first hand.

Now we have social media, we have various blogs, the internet has expanded to the public and connections are being made all over the world about how people are living. If you choose not to tap into at least some of it then you, my friend are missing out and might be a little misinformed. But then again it’s not like this everywhere, also the internet and media are also controlled by higher-ups. I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled the world and meet people from all over and you know out of all of the places I’ve been to, everyone is just as hungry for change in their community as I am, I don’t think I’ve met anyone who is completely happy with where they reside and the rules set in place. are we insatiable beings ? have the western society rules and restrictions that influence a lot of areas of this world led us to overall feel uncomfortable in any place we go? What is happiness? some happiness isn’t even ours some “happiness” is just some unattainable ideas society has put in place to make a profit. These are all the things swirling in my mind so excuse the word vomit, but if this post does anything I hope it inspires you to think outside of the box challenges you to look deeper and ignites a fire for change. We can all get caught in the everyday mundane questions of our immediate life “What am I going to eat next?” “what’s my partner thinking about?” “What happens next season of that show I like?” ” Do I look okay?” and so on.

This post may or may not have a purpose to you but for me its a start, its a pledge to figuring this thing called life out together.

So from now on, I’m sharing, I’m sharing for you, for me, because of I’m tired of watching TV or social media for information, because I miss blogs and just reading about someone’s “small” perspective someone who wants to see a change or who is feeling what I’m feeling, and for the greater good because my mom always said, “two heads are better than one.”

Until next time,

Jessica
